Dutch gambling accounts rise to 1.48 million in H1 2026

The number of online gambling accounts in the Netherlands reached 1.48 million in the first half of 2026, up from 1.38 million in H2 2025, according to the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).
The regulator linked the increase partly to the men’s FIFA World Cup, but also warned that players may be creating multiple accounts to circumvent deposit limits per account.
Since October 2024, Dutch players have had monthly deposit limits of €350, or €150 for those aged 18 to 23. Players have to contact their operator to raise them. Young adults held 22% of the accounts used in H1.
The number of players grew more slowly than the number of accounts. The KSA estimates that about 490,000 people gambled online each month, and around 820,000 did so at least once during the half.
Online gross gaming revenue (GGR) came to €670 million, up from €602 million. Casino’s share fell to 73% from 78%, while sports betting’s rose to 24% from 20%. The average player lost €137 a month, compared with €121. Channelization by GGR increased to 59% from 54%.
In 2025, total market GGR fell to €4.1 billion from €4.5 billion. Online GGR dropped to €1.2 billion from €1.52 billion, which the KSA partly attributed to duty of care rules and higher taxes. The number of people in treatment for gambling addiction rose by more than 14%.
