mgcb brings fixed odds racing bets to state sportsbooks

On October 30, 2026, online sports betting operators in Michigan received approval to offer fixed-odds horse racing bets, after the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) expanded its sports betting catalog to include the product.

The regulator said the decision follows demand from bettors and changes taking place across the racing industry.

Henry Williams, Executive Director of the MGCB, said:

“This change reflects where the horse racing industry itself is heading. Bettors have told us they want the same, straightforward, locked-in odds experience they’ve grown accustomed to with sports betting. Adding fixed-odds wagering to our catalog lets us meet that demand while continuing to support a fair and well-regulated horse racing market in Michigan.”

Horse racing betting has long used a pari-mutuel model, where money from all bettors is pooled, and the final payout is not known until the pool closes at post time. Fixed-odds bets give customers a guaranteed price when they place the bet.

All 12 licensed online sportsbooks in Michigan can now add the product, and existing safeguards, such as age and residency verification and responsible gaming tools, apply in full. In September 2026, online sports betting revenue in the state increased 27% to $55.5 million on handle of $544.8 million.
