kalshi launches deposit cap for 18 to 20 year olds

Kalshi has partnered with youth safety organizations Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely to publish guides for parents, while adding new limits for traders aged 18 to 20.

The Parents’ Guides to Prediction Markets explain how the products work and are designed to help families keep minors off the platform.

Larry Magid, CEO of ConnectSafely, said:

“We’re happy to work with Kalshi to help prevent minors from accessing prediction markets and to educate parents and other adults about the risks. Those risks go beyond losing money and can include compulsive trading, excessive screen time, and risky financial behavior.”

Brock Murphy, Co-Founder and CEO of Parent ProTech, said:

“Kids should not be on prediction markets, and we appreciate Kalshi supporting families in keeping it that way.”

Accounts for 18- to 20-year-olds will now carry a $2,500 monthly deposit limit by default, and new traders holding more than $1,000 will see a prompt to diversify if a single trade uses over a quarter of their balance. Kalshi already steps in when it spots risky trading, escalating from educational resources to trading blocks, and offers all users breaks, self-set limits, and self-exclusion.

Kalshi, which is regulated by the CFTC, already bars minors through KYC identity checks, which is the same standard used by brokerages.
